Making Applesauce

We had a surplus of great apples from the orchard and from Ella's class snack, so we decided to use some of the bruised ones to make applesauce like we did last Fall. Ella enjoyed cutting up the apples with me, adding the ingredients, and waiting for the apples to simmer. The house smelled so delicious, especially on a rainy Monday. Unfortunately, the applesauce was not a hit to eat with her, though. She tried it (which is a big step), but thought it tasted "yucky" and that it was "too orange." Rob and I enjoyed it, though, and it was fun to make it together. I am thinking about trying it, again, but with the addition of some nectarines that are ripening quickly.

dicing the apples

stirring in the sugar, water, and lemon juice

stirring the mashed apples on the stove

giving it a taste

"I don't like it...It tastes yucky."---Look at that face!
(We tried! :) )

finished product (It did taste yummy!)

  1. Looks like Ella was having a great time making the applesauce. It looks great, but Ella probably did not like the texture. "Great Job Ella."
